Toxic Crusaders are hideously deformed creatures of superhuman size and strength! Following a trend of environmentally considerate cartoons and comics of the time, the 1991 animated series Toxic Crusaders featured Toxie and his group of misfit superheroes as they attempted to combat pollution and stop the polluting villains. Major Disaster was a soldier in wild backcountry during a training exercise, but he fell into a radioactive swamp and emerged with the ability to control vegetation and plant life.
