You Am I – The Lives of Others LP Vinyl Record (Pinot Gris Coloured Vinyl)

I mentioned in a past review that I grew up in a household filled with iconic Australian alt-rock and You Am I was at the forefront of that roster. With fantastic albums such as “Sound As Ever,” “Hi Fi Way” and “Hourly Daily,” the band held a vital role at both the peak of the alt rock scene and my listening. Now, almost thirty years after their debut, the band have returned with their eleventh studio album, “The Lives Of Others.” 

Though the years have gone by, the bands talent has not been lost. Their latest album offers much of what fans know and love – catchy lyricism, powerful vocals, driving and crunchy guitars, smooth basslines and pounding drums. The album is melodic and like their 2015 release, it sees Lane contributing vocals on a couple of tracks. And though Rogers’ vocal work is as strong as ever, I welcome this step forward.

Ageing well and maintaining their charm, You Am I’s latest album stands as one of the strongest in their career and certainly of the past decade. It’s an album I can see myself thoroughly enjoying for years to come.
